It’s worth a try if you see it, but don’t expect an over-the-top hop “bomb.” Instead, expect a beer that is solid, even and proper with enough character for a good representation of style. It’s not quite as complex or daunting as some others I’ve had, but I still found it to be enjoyable and easy to drink with plenty of proper IPA “goodness.” I would be more than happy to drink it again if it was available. The palate is saturated well enough to leave a significant amount of flavor behind. The mouthfeel was medium, smooth, crisp, dry, somewhat refreshing and punchy. Again, as the brew developed, a malty backbone gave it some stability to round out the resume. The taste brought forth a nice, little hop “bite.” More of the grapefruit citrus and fruit was found along with further hoppy bitterness from a resiny and piny distinction. It seemed to be balanced very well, however it’s not overly boisterous or vigorous. As it warmed, an earthy malt became evident, which, to me, seemed to calm the overall hop profile of the aroma. A few floral notes came on strong as the brew settled followed by some perfume”y” redolence. The smell was nice with the expected hints of grapefruit citrus along with qualified notes of orange and even some lemon. The lacing was decent as it adhered to the sides of the glass pretty well. A mostly white, slightly creamy head was produced from an easy pour that had ok size, but did not have an extremely long retention time. bottle.Īfter the pour, this brew appeared clear in the glass with a color range of orange to light amber. High-tech student cheating has become a particularly acute problem in K-12 online learning. "The way they cheat does evolve so you try to keep ahead, learning the nuances of the devices that they have or just trying to watch the sleight of hand," Horn told WFMY News in Greensboro. Monitoring students to curb student cheating, according to Robert Horn, a math teacher in Kernesville, North Carolina, is a “full-time job.” Turning "Gotcha" Moments Into Conversations If students believe that what and how they are learning does not seem relevant or useful, Brion-Meisels says, cheating is more likely to occur. The high-stakes testing culture, in addition to fueling stress, has corrupted learning in many schools by narrowing the curriculum and defining achievement as little more than scoring well on a bubble test. "There could be pressure or something significant going on the student's life in which they're not getting enough support to do the work, so cheating becomes a coping mechanism," explains Brion-Meisels. ![]() Focusing too much on students' use of the Internet, for example - while in some cases necessary - avoids addressing some underlying core issues While technology provides new avenues for cheating, it's misguided and an oversimplification to single it out as a cause, says Gretchen Brion-Meisels, a lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The results weren’t markedly different from a 2009 survey by Common Sense Media that revealed 35 percent of students had used their phones to cheat. Six in ten reported that they have seen or know another colleague who has cheated on an exam or quiz. They’re being a ‘good friend.’ - Karlee Cysewski, English teacher, Ririe, IdahoĪ new survey by McAfee, an online security software maker, found that one-third of high school students admit to using cell phones or other devices to cheat in school. “On social media especially, I think some students just see cheating as ‘sharing,’ And they think it is something good and worthwhile – especially if they see themselves as helping a classmate who is stressed out. Students can take notes on their devices to peek at during an exam, text their friends for answers, or take photos of exams and send them to their friends. The technology is impressive, but what many educators see is a quickly expanding catalogue of high-tech tools that have legitimate utility in the classroom, but are also used by students for shortcuts with their assignments or even outright cheating.Ĭheating in school is an age-old problem, but there is little doubt that technology – cell phones in particular - has made it almost too easy. The title: "AI is Making is Making It Extremely Easy for Students to Cheat."ĪI, of course, is artificial intelligence, which in the form of online tool Wolfram|Alpha, provides students "an academic shortcut that is faster than a tutor, more reliable than copying off of friends, and much easier than figuring out a solution yourself." Since its release years ago, the tool, which solves equations and provides the steps to the solution, has become more sophisticated and, according to the article, its presence in the daily academic lives of college and high school students is growing.Įnthusiasts typically say that most digital technologies are exciting innovations that are changing the way students learn and that schools need to adapt to these rapidly changing technologies - an often-used trope that tends to blunt legitimate debate about the drawbacks for teachers and students. An educator worried about how technology in and outside the classroom has facilitated student cheating won’t breathe any easier after reading a recent story posted on. ![]() ![]() As far as the nontechnical user is concerned, these parameters function as image modifiers, and allow the user to edit the spectrogram’s sharpness or smoothness. For the Gnostics, the drama of the redemption of the Sophia through Christ or the Logos is the central drama of the universe. In Gnosticism, the Gospel story of Jesus is itself allegorical: it is the Outer Mystery, used as an introduction to Gnosis, rather than it being literally true in a historical context. Christ is then sent to earth in the form of the man Jesus to give men the Gnosis needed to rescue themselves from the physical world and return to the spiritual world. Christ enables her to again see the light, bringing her knowledge of the spirit (Greek: pneuma, πνευμα). In the Pistis Sophia, Christ is sent from the Godhead in order to bring Sophia back into the fullness (Pleroma). The Demiurge proceeds to create the physical world in which we live, ignorant of Sophia, who nevertheless manages to infuse some spiritual spark or pneuma into his creation. The creation of the Demiurge (also known as Yaldabaoth, "Son of Chaos") is also a mistake made during this exile. Because of these longings, matter (Greek: hylē, ὕλη) and soul (Greek: psychē, ψυχή) accidentally come into existence. After cataclysmically falling from the Pleroma, Sophia's fear and anguish of losing her life (just as she lost the light of the One) causes confusion and longing to return to it. According to some Gnostic texts, the crisis occurs as a result of Sophia trying to emanate without her syzygy or, in another tradition, because she tries to breach the barrier between herself and the unknowable Bythos. In most versions of the Gnostic mythos, it is Sophia who brings about this instability in the Pleroma, in turn bringing about the creation of materiality. The transition from the immaterial to the material, from the noumenal to the sensible, is brought about by a flaw, or a passion, or a sin, in one of the Aeons. ![]() Together with the source from which they emanate they form the Pleroma, or fullness, of God, and thus should not be seen as distinct from the divine, but symbolic abstractions of the divine nature. She is considered to have fallen from grace in some way, in so doing creating or helping to create the material world.Īlmost all Gnostic systems of the Syrian or Egyptian type taught that the universe began with an original, unknowable God, referred to as the Parent or Bythos, or as the Monad by Monoimus. In the Nag Hammadi texts, Sophia is the lowest Aeon, or anthropic expression of the emanation of the light of God. She is occasionally referred to by the Hebrew equivalent of Achamōth (Ἀχαμώθ, Hebrew: חכמה chokhmah) and as Prunikos (Προύνικος). the Bride of Christ), and Holy Spirit of the Trinity. Gnostics held that she was the syzygy (female twin divine Aeon) of Jesus (i.e. In Gnosticism, Sophia is a feminine figure, analogous to the human soul but also simultaneously one of the feminine aspects of God.
